Rap duo Mike LeJand of Paterson New Jersey and Tre Exel of Chicago, Illinois make up the group The Grown Upz. Lejand broke into the music scene in 2005 when he signed to Wolverine Records, where he was also the VP of the label. Lej has a history of battle rapping over local DJ mixtapes in the New Jersey area since the age of 12. Tre Exel had his first professional experience with the local hit in Chicago in 2001 with "Sex In A Bubble Lex" with the group DraCon. He was also signed to an independent label via Warner Brother Records. It wouldn't be long before the pair would team up to create their sound. But first, they had to come up with a unique name. Lejand says "Me and Tre were just starting to vibe to the music and the songs we did had a grown man approach to it. So vibing in the car on breaks at work and spitting versus the big homie said how about grown folks then we just went on to be Grown Upz. It just felt good". The sound can be described as captivating, soulful, energetic, and thought-provoking. Now they're putting all of their efforts behind their latest album "Grown Upz Talking." The duo saw underground success with their 2019 album "Proper Introduction." Now they're looking for bigger and better with this latest effort.
